JANUARY ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Our boys Varsity Basketball athlete of the month is Brandon Luey.  When our starting point guard sprained his ankle and was out for several weeks Brandon, who is just a sophomore, was called on to play a lot of minutes at the point guard position.  Playing point guard carries a lot of reponsibilty and pressure.  As a result of his hard work and being very coachable he improved extremely rapidly and we were able to put together a 4 game winning streak with him playing point the majority of the time.   Brandon responded to this opportunity and to the needs of the team with maturity and tenacity.  As a result of his hard work Brandon may be this years most improved player.

Claire is:
1. is a quiet leader,
2. leads by example in practice and games,
3. often is the first player on the practice floor working on individual skills,
4. is a stabilizing force in pressure situations,
5. has positive court decorum,
6. has consistent emotional composure,
7. frequently has the most difficult defensive assignment,
8. leads the team in assists,
9. is one of the team leaders in steals,
10. is one of the teams best shooters.

BILL STEPHENS AWARDED NWL COY

In his 2nd season with the Faith Bible Falcons Bill Stephens has brought the girls basketball team from rock bottom in the league to being just one game away from state this year.  Before Bill took over the girls record in 2011 was 2-23 losing several games by over 40 pts.  In Coach Stephens 1st year the girls were 6-17 and their games were all within around 10 pts.  In his 2nd year with the girls the Falcons were 11-14.  Half of the 14 loses were by 5 points or less.

Coaches in the league have taken notice of him turning this team around and voted Coach Stephens as the NWL Coach of the year.  What a great honor for our coach!  We look forward to seeing where he takes the team next year!

What an incredible game that was played @ Riverdale vs the Mavericks on Thursday night.  The game determined which team would make the state playoffs.  Unfortunately our girls came up short losing the game 44-39.  The girls were down by 11 points at one point and battled back to take the lead.  Though things didn't go the way we wanted them to we are so proud of our girls and the way they played.  They set a new single season record for most wins with 11.  Also thanks for all the fans that came out to support the girls...it was a great atmosphere!!!!
